About

The Yoga Desire Story

We are Taz & Jono the co-founders & team behind Yoga Desire (YD).

Our Sankalpa (intention) is Yoga Desire. We have the desire to bring the tools of Yoga and Meditation to Remote Australia. Our mission is to make yoga accessible and inclusive for every body who comes along to our offerings.

We have been living in Derby in far Northern WA for approximately 7 years and running Yoga Desire since September of 2017. The Kimberley is our home. In June 2019 we also launched Kimberley Yoga Attire, a collaborative project with Mowanjum Aboriginal Art & Cultural Centre that supports local Aboriginal artists in Derby and supports us to continue to support our extensive community in far Northern WA through Yoga and Meditation. In September of 2019 we also launched the Online Studio to continue to connect & support people in remote places or those who cannot access a yoga class in person, through yoga.

We choose to practice Yoga & Meditation in a way that is gentle and kind in respect of ourselves, others and the Aboriginal Land that we stand on.

A little bit about Taryn's yoga studies:

  • 350hrs Yoga Australia Registered Yoga Teacher
  • 110hrs Association of Meditation Australia Meditation Facilitator

A little bit about Jono's role:

Jono loves guiding walking meditations in his permaculture garden.

We would love to meet you!

Acknowledgment

Yoga Desire acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging & recognise Derby, the place where we run our yoga studio as a place of cultural significance to NYIKINA MANGALA and many other Aboriginal people. We choose to practice Yoga & Meditation in a way that is gentle and kind in respect of ourselves, others and the Aboriginal Land that we stand on.
